Strategic plan
The Auditor-General Mr Jara Dean unveiled a new strategic plan and with it a new logo for the Northern Territory Auditor-General’s Office (NTAGO).
"The plan is a roadmap that charts our journey towards the long-term vision of an accountable, transparent and capable public sector," Mr Dean said. "It shows how my role and my office will contribute to maintaining integrity in government, not only through the powers conferred by the Audit Act but also by supporting good public administration in the Territory through balanced reporting and helping to build capability."
The strategic plan 2025-2030 is structured around 4 key strategic objectives:
- change
- trust
- people
- value for money.
Focus areas and priority actions under each of the 4 strategic objectives reflect the immediate initiatives which address recommendations from a recent strategic review.

Mr Dean thanked his staff and chief executive officers of agencies and Territory entities. "The plan is a result of stakeholder engagements and input from the small but highly dedicated team at the Northern Territory Auditor-General’s Office."
The relationship between Parliament and the Auditor-General is essential in achieving public accountability, a fundamental component of a functioning democracy. This close connection of the Auditor-General to Parliament and ultimately the community is reflected in the new logo of the NTAGO.
The logo symbolises a petal on the Sturt’s desert rose, the floral emblem of the Northern Territory and a prominent feature throughout the Parliament House. The deliberate use of triangles signifies that all audit engagements have 3 separate parties:
- the responsible party (the public sector and the government)
- the intended users (Parliament and the community)
- the independent auditor (Auditor-General).
The concept of independence, both actual and perceived is the most important principle underpinning the role of the Auditor-General. It was important that the logo is distinguishable from the Northern Territory Government branding and other symbols used widely by the government, such as the Northern Territory Government crest.
